Overview

During the Vietnam War, Captain Benjamin Willard is given a mission that officially does not exist: travel upriver into Cambodia and terminate the command of Colonel Walter Kurtz, a decorated officer who has gone rogue and built his own army in the jungle. As Willard’s patrol boat pushes deeper into the war, the journey becomes a descent into madness — past a surf-obsessed colonel, a USO show, a French plantation, and the horrors of a conflict that has lost all shape. Francis Ford Coppola’s film, adapted from Joseph Conrad’s Heart of Darkness, stars Martin Sheen as Willard, Marlon Brando as Kurtz, Robert Duvall as the unforgettable Lieutenant Colonel Kilgore, and a young Laurence Fishburne. Shot in the Philippines under famously chaotic conditions, Apocalypse Now is operatic, hallucinatory, and still one of the most ambitious war films ever made.

Why Watch Apocalypse Now?

Watch it for its sheer scale and its nightmare logic. The helicopter attack set to Wagner, the napalm, the fog-shrouded final act — these are images that have entered the culture for a reason. It is less a war movie than a journey into the heart of war itself.
