Mare of Easttown

2021 • TMDB 8.2 • 1 season • 7 episodes • Drama, Crime, Mystery • HBO

Overview

In the small Pennsylvania town of Easttown, everybody knows everybody — and everybody knows Mare Sheehan. A local detective still haunted by the loss of her son and a case she could never solve, Mare is the town’s hero and its cautionary tale in one. When a young mother is murdered and another girl goes missing, Mare takes on an investigation that will drag every buried secret in Easttown into the light. Created by Brad Ingelsby, Mare of Easttown is a crime drama that works as both a gripping whodunit and a portrait of grief: a woman holding her family, her town and herself together while everything around her unravels. Kate Winslet gives a career-best performance as Mare — prickly, funny, exhausted and utterly believable — supported by a superb ensemble including Evan Peters, Jean Smart and Julianne Nicholson. Across seven episodes, the mystery twists and tightens until a final revelation that reframes everything. It is one of the finest limited series of the decade.
