One Punch Man

Overview

One Punch Man is a superhero satire built on a deliciously absurd premise: what happens when the hero is already unbeatable? Saitama became a hero for fun, and after three years of grueling training he can defeat any foe with a single punch. The joke — and the heart — of the series is that his greatest enemy is boredom itself. While monsters and villains threaten entire cities, Saitama worries about supermarket sales, his ranking in the Hero Association, and whether anyone will ever give him the credit he deserves. Around him swirls a colorful cast of flawed, ambitious heroes and villains who take their powers very seriously, which only makes his deadpan indifference funnier. Beneath the explosive fights lies a surprisingly thoughtful story about purpose, recognition, and what it means to be a hero when victory is guaranteed. It is fast, funny, beautifully animated, and endlessly quotable.
