Overview

Ally McBeal is a young Boston lawyer whose inner life is far louder than the courtroom around her. At the firm Cage and Fish, she argues cases by day and replays her love life in vivid, surreal daydreams by night — dancing babies, sudden musical numbers, and all. David E. Kelley’s hit blends legal drama with romantic comedy and fantasy, turning Ally’s search for love, confidence, and a place to belong into something both funny and unexpectedly moving. Around her, a wonderfully odd ensemble — the brilliant, eccentric John Cage, the smooth-talking Richard Fish, and sharp-tongued colleagues who become family — keeps the firm humming. Beneath the whimsy, Ally McBeal is about growing up in public: making mistakes, falling for the wrong people, and learning that a brilliant mind and a tender heart can share the same briefcase.
