Overview
The commercial spaceship Nostromo answers a distress call from a distant moon and brings aboard something it should never have touched. One crew member is attacked by a strange creature, and soon a perfect organism is loose in the ship’s corridors — hunting the crew one by one. Ridley Scott’s Alien is less a monster movie than a masterclass in dread: long, quiet corridors, flickering lights, the hum of the ship, and a creature designed by H. R. Giger that remains one of cinema’s great nightmares. Sigourney Weaver’s Ripley, cool and resourceful under impossible pressure, anchors the film, with John Hurt, Tom Skerritt, Ian Holm, and Veronica Cartwright rounding out the doomed crew. It is science fiction played as a haunted-house story, and it still works because Scott trusts silence more than shocks.
Why Watch Alien?
Watch it for the atmosphere alone — few films build tension this patiently or this well. It also introduced Ripley, one of the great screen heroes, and set the template for every sci-fi horror film that followed. In space, no one can hear you scream — and after this, you will understand why.
