Overview
Beyond the edge of Portland, past the last streetlights and into the trees, lies the Impassable Wilderness: a place of talking animals, hidden councils and old grudges that most people dismiss as a bedtime story. Prue McKeel does not have that luxury. When her baby brother is taken by a murder of crows and carried into the forest, she follows him into a world that is beautiful, strange and quietly menacing, accompanied by her classmate Curtis, whose own reasons for entering the woods are more complicated than he first admits. There, creatures with politics, grudges and long memories argue over territory, magic and the fate of outsiders, and Prue discovers that bravery is less about charging forward than about listening, keeping promises and refusing to be frightened into cruelty. Director Travis Knight and Laika bring this world to life in painstaking stop-motion, where every leaf, feather and flicker of lamplight feels touched by hand. The result is a fantasy that treats childhood seriously: an adventure about a girl who learns that the wild is not a place to conquer, but a community to understand before it is too late for the people she loves.

Why Watch Wildwood?
Watch Wildwood because it is the rare animated fantasy that trusts its audience to sit with mystery. Laika’s stop-motion gives the forest a texture no computer-only world can match: you can almost feel the damp moss and hear the creak of branches, which makes Prue’s journey feel genuinely perilous rather than merely decorative. It is also a film about empathy as an adventure skill — listening to creatures who do not think like you, weighing competing claims, and standing up for a sibling without losing yourself. For families who want more than jokes and noise, and for adults who still remember what a forest at dusk felt like, this is a rich, patient and gorgeously made story.
