Overview

Disney’s live-action Moana brings the beloved animated adventure to life with real waves, real wind, and the same brave heart at its center. Moana, the strong-willed daughter of a chief, feels the ocean calling her beyond the reef, even though her people are told to stay close to home. When her island faces danger, she sets sail on a daring voyage to restore balance, guided by the ocean itself and by her own courage. Along the way she meets Maui, the larger-than-life demigod whose strength is matched only by his charm — and his flaws. Together they face storms, monsters, and the doubts that follow any great journey. Director Thomas Kail keeps the story’s warmth and wonder intact, turning a familiar tale into a sweeping, sunlit adventure about listening to your own voice, honoring where you come from, and daring to go further than anyone expects.

Why Watch Moana?

Watch it if you want a family film that feels both epic and personal. Catherine Lagaʻaia brings Moana to life with confidence and heart, while Dwayne Johnson’s Maui is as funny and formidable as fans hoped, and the ocean itself becomes a character in its own right. The live-action setting gives the songs, the sailing, and the island world a new scale, without losing the humor and emotion that made the original a favorite. It is a film to watch together — bright, hopeful, and full of adventure — and a reminder that the best journeys begin when you trust the call you feel inside.
