Overview
Harry Lehman is a man out of time. Once, his hands were his living: a pickpocket working the crowded streets and subways of New York, lifting wallets stuffed with cash. But the city has changed around him. Wallets have given way to credit cards that can be cancelled in seconds, and the returns on his old trade shrink a little more every day. At home, he cares for his disabled wife, Rosie, and the bills keep coming whether or not his fingers are still quick. Then one lift goes wrong in the worst possible way: Harry unwittingly steals and fences a valuable USB stick, and suddenly a vengeful crime family wants its property back. What follows is a race against time through a New York that no longer has room for men like him, as Harry tries to undo a single mistake before it costs him everything he still loves.
Why Watch The Only Living Pickpocket in New York?
Watch The Only Living Pickpocket in New York for John Turturro, who gives Harry a weary warmth that makes this old-fashioned crime drama feel genuinely human rather than merely nostalgic. Writer-director Noah Segan shoots New York as a lived-in place of subways, side streets, and small kindnesses, and the supporting cast, including Giancarlo Esposito, Steve Buscemi, Tatiana Maslany, and Jamie Lee Curtis, gives every corner of Harry’s world weight. Beneath the stolen USB stick and the ticking clock, this is a story about loyalty and love: a man who has spent his life taking things from strangers, forced at last to fight for the one person who never asked him for anything.
