Overview

By day, Carl Rikker is a quiet horticulturalist, a man happiest among his flowers. But Carl, played by Dennis Quaid, is hiding a second life — as a lethal assassin. Babak Najafi’s The Florist takes that delicious contradiction and runs with it, as Carl’s carefully kept double life starts to unravel when he forms an unlikely friendship with a witness to police corruption. Suddenly the man who arranges bouquets for a living is caught between the people who want him dead, the people he once worked for, and a conscience he thought he had buried long ago. Jean Reno co-stars as Charlie, with Sky Katz as Layla, Jim Klock as Deckard, Leonidas Gulaptis as Woodrock, Elsa Mollien as Rebecca, Gabriel ‘G-Rod’ Rodriguez as Jason and Dominick LaRuffa Jr. as Lloyd. The result is a compact, old-school action thriller built on a great hook: the deadliest man in the room might also be the one who knows how to keep your roses alive.

Why Watch The Florist?

The Florist works because of its central pairing and its premise. Dennis Quaid brings weary charm to a man torn between two lives, and Jean Reno is always welcome in a thriller like this. The film leans into the tension between Carl’s gentle day job and his violent past, and the friendship at its center gives the action real stakes. If you enjoy compact, character-driven action thrillers with a veteran cast, this one is worth keeping on your radar until it reaches US screens and streaming.
