Overview
From Adam Wingard, the director behind The Guest and Godzilla x Kong, Onslaught is a lean, brutal action-horror-thriller built around a single terrifying idea: what happens when the weapons a government builds to fight its wars decide to fight back. Deep in the American desert, a squad of genetically engineered super soldiers breaks loose from the program that created them, cutting a merciless path through anyone unlucky enough to cross their trail. Standing between them and a wider bloodbath is Celeste, an Army sniper played by Adria Arjona, whose training and steady nerve are put to the ultimate test when the soldiers’ rampage threatens the person she loves most: her young daughter, Daisy. What follows is a desperate, sun-scorched chase across a landscape that offers nowhere to hide, as Celeste races to protect her child while uncovering the conspiracy that made these killers. With Dan Stevens, Rebecca Hall, Michael Biehn, Eric Wareheim and Reginald VelJohnson in support, Onslaught keeps its focus tight and its tension high, trading sprawling spectacle for close-quarters dread and the primal fear of a parent who will do anything to keep her daughter alive.
Why Watch Onslaught?
Onslaught works because it never lets its high-concept premise outrun its human stakes. Wingard directs with the same muscular, no-waste energy he brought to The Guest, staging the desert as both a beautiful backdrop and a trap, while Arjona anchors the chaos with a performance that is all focus and ferocity. The super soldiers are genuinely frightening — silent, relentless and almost impossible to stop — which makes every confrontation feel like a last stand. If you like action movies that move fast, hit hard and keep the emotional core in plain sight, this is a ride worth taking.
