Overview
Janiyah Wiltkinson is a single mother doing everything she can to hold her life together — working hard, caring for her daughter and pushing through a system that seems designed to wear her down. Then comes one devastatingly bad day, when every setback lands at once and the smallest humiliations pile up until there is nothing left to give. What begins as an ordinary trip to the bank becomes a desperate standoff, as Janiyah, pushed past her breaking point, finds herself at the centre of a crisis she never intended to create. Tyler Perry directs with a raw, unflinching focus on a woman the world keeps overlooking, and Taraji P. Henson delivers a powerhouse performance that carries the film through its tensest moments. Teyana Taylor and Sherri Shepherd round out a strong supporting cast in a thriller that is less about crime than about the breaking point of a person who has simply had enough.
Why Watch Straw?
Because it is a gripping, emotional thriller anchored by one of Taraji P. Henson’s strongest performances. The film asks what happens when an ordinary person is pushed too far, and it answers with tension, empathy and a final act that stays with you long after the credits. If you like dramas that hit hard and thrillers that mean something, Straw delivers both.
