Overview
Four-year-old Kun is the undisputed king of his small world — until his baby sister Mirai arrives and steals the spotlight. Bewildered by jealousy and the sudden attention lavished on the newcomer, Kun retreats to the family’s garden, where a magical oak tree opens doors to the past and the future. There he meets Mirai as a confident teenager, his mother as a little girl, his great-grandfather as a young man, and other relatives at turning points in their lives. Through these encounters, Kun begins to understand that his family is a chain of stories stretching back generations, and that his own frustrations are part of growing up. Mamoru Hosoda directs with warmth and wonder, blending everyday domestic life with gentle fantasy in a way that feels both intimate and universal. Mirai is a tender, beautifully animated film about sibling rivalry, empathy, and the quiet miracle of belonging to a family.
