Hunter x Hunter

2011 • TMDB 8.7 • 3 seasons • Animation, Action & Adventure, Sci-Fi & Fantasy

Overview

Twelve-year-old Gon Freecss leaves Whale Island with one goal: to become a Hunter, like the father who vanished from his life years earlier. The Hunter Exam is his first test, and it is brutal, strange and strangely funny — a gauntlet of trick questions, deadly terrain and rivals who become friends. Along the way Gon meets Killua, a former assassin searching for a life of his own, Kurapika, driven by vengeance for his murdered clan, and Leorio, whose loud ambition hides a generous heart.

What begins as a bright adventure keeps deepening. As Gon learns Nen, the series’ intricate power system, the stakes sharpen and the tone darkens without losing its warmth. From the Heaven’s Arena tournament to the sprawling Chimera Ant arc, Hunter x Hunter asks what ambition costs, how friendship survives power, and whether innocence can hold up against a world that keeps testing it.

Why Watch Hunter x Hunter

Because it starts like a cheerful adventure and quietly becomes one of the most thoughtful shonen series ever made. Its fights are won with strategy as much as strength, its villains are given real motives, and its heroes are allowed to fail, doubt and change. If you want a long anime that rewards patience with genuine emotional payoff, this is the one to commit to.
