Overview

Henry Hill grows up idolizing the mobsters in his Brooklyn neighborhood, and by his teens he is running errands for the local crew. As an adult he rises through the ranks alongside Jimmy Conway and the volatile Tommy DeVito, enjoying money, status and the thrill of the life — until a drug habit, a botched robbery and paranoia pull it all apart. Scorsese tells the story at a breathless pace, with voiceover narration, needle-drop music and long, gliding camera moves that make the criminal world feel intoxicating before showing its cost. Based on Nicholas Pileggi’s book Wiseguy, it follows Hill from wide-eyed kid to paranoid fugitive over three decades. The film won Joe Pesci an Academy Award and is widely regarded as one of the greatest crime films ever made.
