Overview

Forrest Gump follows a kind-hearted Alabama man whose simple outlook carries him through some of the most famous moments of twentieth-century America. Told from a bus-stop bench, where Forrest recounts his life to strangers, the story moves from his childhood leg braces and his devoted mother to college football, Vietnam, table tennis diplomacy and a cross-country run that captures the nation’s imagination. Along the way he keeps returning to Jenny, the girl he has loved since childhood, and to the friendships that shape him, especially Bubba and Lieutenant Dan. Tom Hanks anchors the film with warmth and sincerity, while Robert Zemeckis weaves Forrest into real historical footage with effects that still impress. Beneath the famous lines and the drifting feather, this is a film about decency, loyalty and a love that endures across a lifetime.

Why Watch Forrest Gump?

Forrest Gump remains one of the most quoted and rewatched films of the nineties because it earns its sentiment honestly. Hanks makes Forrest feel real rather than a symbol, and the supporting cast, Robin Wright, Gary Sinise and Sally Field, gives the decades-spanning story its emotional weight. The soundtrack traces American music from Elvis to the seventies, and the visual effects that place Forrest beside presidents still hold up. It is funny, moving and endlessly quotable, the rare blockbuster that works just as well on a quiet night at home as it did on the big screen.
