Overview
Chief of War is an epic historical drama from creators Thomas Pa’a Sibbett and Jason Momoa that tells the story of the unification of Hawaii through the eyes of Kaʻiana, a warrior chief caught between loyalty, exile, and destiny. Set at the end of the 18th century, when the islands’ four kingdoms are divided by war, the series follows Kaʻiana as he leaves his homeland, sees the wider world, and returns to a Hawaii on the brink of transformation. Momoa brings raw physical presence and emotional weight to the role, while Luciane Buchanan shines as Kaʻahumanu, the formidable future queen whose intelligence and resolve shape the islands’ fate. Filmed with sweeping landscapes and large-scale battle sequences, the series also takes care to present Hawaiian language and culture with respect and authenticity, grounding its spectacle in real history. It is a story of clashing kingdoms, shifting alliances, and the heavy cost of unity — told on a scale rarely seen on television.
