Overview
From Yeon Sang-ho, the director behind Train to Busan, Colony drops its audience into a sealed biotech conference that becomes a nightmare in a single afternoon. When a fast-mutating virus escapes during the event, the authorities lock the building down, trapping professor Kwon Se-jeong inside with a handful of other survivors. The infected do not simply turn — they twist into something worse, and every corridor becomes a gamble between hiding, running, and fighting back. As the group fractures under fear and suspicion, Se-jeong has to hold together people who barely trust each other long enough to find a way out of a building designed to keep everything in. Shot with the propulsive, large-scale set pieces that made Yeon’s earlier outbreak films international hits, Colony pairs relentless creature horror with a sharp eye for how institutions fail the people trapped inside them.
Why Watch Colony?
Colony is essential viewing for anyone who loved Train to Busan and wanted Yeon Sang-ho to go bigger and bloodier. The sealed-building setup squeezes maximum tension from every hallway and stairwell, and the mutating infected give the action a queasy unpredictability that keeps even seasoned horror fans guessing. Gianna Jun anchors the chaos as a professor forced to lead, and the ensemble cast sells both the panic and the gallows humor. Beneath the gore, the film has something to say about who gets protected when a crisis hits and who gets locked in. It is a ferocious, crowd-pleasing nightmare — best watched with the lights low and the doors locked.
