Overview

Vivant opens with a corporate headache that quickly turns into an international crisis. Yusuke Nogi works in the energy development arm of a major Japanese trading company, and when a huge payment for an overseas infrastructure project goes badly wrong, he is sent to the fictional Central Asian republic of Balka to recover the money. What begins as a damage-control trip soon pulls him into a web of terrorists, intelligence operatives and a shadowy organization whose reach stretches far beyond one bad transaction. As Nogi follows the trail, questions pile up about who can be trusted — including people close to him — and about his own buried past. Shot on a grand scale across Japan, Mongolia and beyond, the series mixes boardroom politics, desert chases and spy-thriller twists, anchored by Masato Sakai’s calm, watchful lead performance. It is a big, confident drama that keeps raising the stakes until the final episode.

Vivant is directed by Katsuo Fukuzawa, Akiko Katō and Yohei Miyazaki. Why Watch Vivant?

Vivant is a rare Japanese drama with true blockbuster scale: sweeping locations, a sprawling international conspiracy and a lead character who is as much a puzzle as the case he is chasing. The twists keep coming, the supporting cast is stacked with familiar faces, and the show balances tense spy action with genuine emotion about identity and loyalty. If you enjoy globe-trotting thrillers with big cliffhangers, this one earns its buzz.
