Overview
Four years after escaping the Grabber’s basement, Finney Blake is still trying to live a normal life — but the past refuses to stay buried. His younger sister Gwen begins receiving calls in her dreams from the black phone, along with terrifying visions of three boys being stalked at a winter camp in the Rocky Mountains. Determined to stop another tragedy, the siblings follow the clues into the snow, where they discover that the killer they thought they had defeated has grown stronger in death — and that his connection to their family runs deeper than either of them ever imagined. Director Scott Derrickson returns to the world of Joe Hill’s short story with a sequel that trades the first film’s claustrophobic basement for wide, frozen landscapes and a more supernatural, dream-haunted kind of dread. As Gwen’s visions pull her closer to the camp and the boys in danger, Finney must confront not just a ghost, but the trauma that has shaped both of their lives since their first encounter with evil.
Why Watch Black Phone 2?
Because it does what the best horror sequels do: it expands the nightmare instead of simply repeating it. Ethan Hawke’s Grabber is somehow more unsettling from beyond the grave, and the film’s shift into Gwen’s dream world — part psychic mystery, part slasher chase — gives the sequel its own identity. Mason Thames and Madeleine McGraw are excellent as siblings who refuse to look away from horror, and the snowbound setting makes every phone call feel colder and more ominous than the last.
