Overview

On the surface, This Is Us is the story of three siblings — Kevin, Kate and Randall, the “Big Three” — who share a birthday and a lifetime of triumphs, arguments and reconciliations. Beneath that surface, it is something far richer: a decades-spanning portrait of the Pearson family, moving between the 1980s, when Jack and Rebecca raise their triplets in Pittsburgh, and the present day, where their adult children wrestle with careers, relationships, parenthood and grief. The show’s great trick is its timeline, which turns every revelation into a re-reading of what came before — a throwaway line in one era becomes a heartbreak in another. Across six seasons, it tackles adoption, addiction, body image, dementia and the slow work of becoming a family, always with warmth and without easy answers. By the finale, the Pearsons feel less like characters and more like people you have known for years, which is exactly why millions of viewers cried through every season.
