Overview
Twenty-eight years after the Rage virus tore through Britain, the infected have not gone away — and neither have the people who survived them. On a small tidal island cut off from the mainland, a community has built a fragile, ritual-bound life behind its causeway, raising children who have never known the old world. When young Spike leaves the island with his father on a rite-of-passage hunt, he crosses into a mainland that has mutated in ways no story back home prepared him for: new kinds of infected, stranger survivors, and a doctor living alone among the dead. Danny Boyle returns to the series he began with 28 Days Later, and the result is less a straightforward zombie sequel than a coming-of-age story set inside an apocalypse — lyrical, brutal, and unexpectedly tender. Shot with restless energy and grounded by Alfie Williams’ remarkable central performance, 28 Years Later asks what a generation raised after the end of the world inherits, fears, and hopes for.
Why Watch 28 Years Later?
Because it is a horror sequel with real ambition. Boyle and writer Alex Garland use the infected as a backdrop for something rarer: a story about childhood, grief, and courage in a world that never healed.
