Overview
The Lowdown is a crime drama from Sterlin Harjo that follows Lee Raybon, a self-styled Tulsa “truthstorian” — a citizen journalist who digs into the city’s buried secrets and publishes what powerful people would rather keep hidden. Played by Ethan Hawke with a rumpled, restless energy, Lee is part investigator, part provocateur, and his digging has a habit of unearthing trouble that reaches far beyond the story he set out to tell. The series leans into Tulsa’s layered history and its present-day tensions, mixing wry humor with genuine menace as Lee’s inquiries collide with corrupt institutions, old grudges, and his own complicated family life. Keith David, Jeanne Tripplehorn, and Tim Blake Nelson round out a cast that gives the show its lived-in, offbeat texture. What sets The Lowdown apart is its tone: it is funny without being glib and serious without losing its sense of mischief, and its portrait of a man chasing the truth at personal cost feels both specific to Oklahoma and universal.

Seasons Snapshot
The Lowdown has run for two seasons totaling 16 episodes. Season 1 premiered on FX on September 23, 2025, and Season 2 premiered on October 14, 2026. The series is a returning series, so more of Lee Raybon’s investigations may still be to come.
Why Watch The Lowdown?
The Lowdown is worth watching because Ethan Hawke is magnetic as a hero who is equal parts crusader and chaos agent. Harjo’s writing gives Tulsa a distinct voice — funny, prickly, and steeped in history — and the show trusts its audience to follow a mystery that grows stranger and more personal with each episode. If you enjoy crime dramas with a strong sense of place and a lead character you can root for even when he makes terrible decisions, this one delivers.
