Overview
After a family tragedy, kung fu prodigy Li Fong is uprooted from his home in Beijing and forced to move to New York City with his mother. In a new city, a new school, and a new life, Li tries to leave fighting behind — until a new friend needs his help and he enters a karate competition. But his skills alone are not enough for the tournament ahead. His kung fu teacher, Mr. Han, enlists the original Karate Kid, Daniel LaRusso, and together the two masters teach Li a new way to fight, merging their two styles into one for the ultimate martial arts showdown. Director Jonathan Entwistle brings the two branches of the franchise together for the first time on the big screen, pairing Jackie Chan’s Mr. Han with Ralph Macchio’s Daniel LaRusso as mentors to Ben Wang’s charismatic newcomer. The result is a crowd-pleasing legacy sequel about grief, family, and finding your footing in a place that is not yet home.
Why Watch Karate Kid: Legends?
Because it delivers the crossover fans have waited decades for: Jackie Chan and Ralph Macchio sharing the screen as two masters from two eras of the same story. Ben Wang is a winning new lead, the New York setting gives the tournament a fresh backdrop, and the film never forgets the franchise’s core lesson — that martial arts is about discipline and heart, not just winning. It is nostalgic without being stuck in the past, and fun whether you grew up with Mr. Miyagi or are meeting the saga for the first time.
