Overview
Sonny Hayes was once a Formula 1 prodigy, until a devastating crash in the 1990s cut his career short and sent him drifting through other forms of racing. Three decades later, his old friend Ruben Cervantes, now running the struggling APXGP team, offers Sonny one last shot: return to Formula 1, help save the team, and mentor its young star, Joshua Pearce. Sonny brings experience, instinct, and a fearless edge, but Joshua brings raw speed and ambition — and the two clash as fiercely on the track as they push each other off it. Shot during real Grand Prix weekends with cameras mounted on actual race cars, F1: The Movie puts viewers inside the cockpit at 200 miles per hour, where split-second decisions, pit-lane strategy, and trust between teammates mean the difference between victory and disaster. As the season builds toward its climax, Sonny must decide whether he is racing to prove something to the world, or to finally make peace with his own past.
Why Watch F1: The Movie?
It is the rare sports drama that feels genuinely fast. Director Joseph Kosinski films the racing with a clarity and intensity that makes every overtake matter, while Brad Pitt gives Sonny a lived-in mix of charm, stubbornness, and regret. Damson Idris is a compelling foil as Joshua, and the mentor-versus-protégé dynamic gives the spectacle real emotional stakes. You do not need to follow Formula 1 to enjoy it — but if you do, the authentic race-weekend detail is a bonus.
