Overview

Makoto Edamura thinks he is Japan’s greatest swindler — until he tries to con Laurent Thierry and discovers what a real con artist looks like. Swept from Tokyo to Los Angeles, Singapore and beyond, Edamura is pulled into Laurent’s crew of glamorous grifters, each job bigger, riskier and more personal than the last. Great Pretender is a globe-trotting caper with the style to match: WIT Studio’s animation bursts with color, its jazz-soaked soundtrack swings, and every case is a puzzle box of double-crosses where the real mark is never who you think. Across 27 episodes, the show also digs into why its con artists became who they are — Laurent’s hidden motives, Abbie’s past, Cynthia’s loyalties — giving its flash real feeling. The 2024 sequel season, razbliuto, brings back Dorothy and the crew for one more game. Fun, stylish and endlessly twisty, Great Pretender is the rare heist story where getting conned is half the pleasure.
