Overview

Alchemy in Amestris runs on one iron rule: to gain something, you must give up something of equal value. Brothers Edward and Alphonse Elric learn that lesson the hardest way possible when a forbidden attempt to bring their mother back to life costs Edward an arm and a leg and strips Alphonse of his entire body, leaving his soul bound to a suit of armor. Now State Alchemists, the brothers travel the country hunting for the Philosopher’s Stone, the one artifact said to break the rules of equivalent exchange and restore what they lost. Their search pulls them into the secrets of the military, the scars of the Ishvalan war, and a conspiracy led by shadowy beings called Homunculi who have been steering the nation’s history from behind the scenes. Across 64 episodes, the story grows from a personal quest into a sweeping saga of war, science, faith and sacrifice, never losing sight of the two brothers at its center or the price every character must pay for what they want most.

Why Watch Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood

Few series earn their reputation as completely as this one. Because it adapts the full manga in one continuous run, every mystery, betrayal and sacrifice lands exactly where it was meant to, building to an ending that feels both surprising and inevitable. It also refuses easy answers: its heroes work for a military with blood on its hands, its villains have reasons, and its central question — what a human life is worth — is asked again and again, in battlefields, laboratories and quiet family kitchens. Add a sharp sense of humor, inventive alchemy battles and one of anime’s most beloved sibling bonds, and you have a series that rewards first-time viewers and repeat watchers alike.
