Overview
George Woodhouse is one of Britain’s most trusted intelligence officers, and he has just been handed a list of suspects in the leak of a top-secret cyber weapon codenamed Severus. The problem is personal: his own wife, fellow agent Kathryn, is on the list. Given a week to find the traitor, George invites the five suspects to a dinner party and plays a quiet psychological game, watching for the lie that gives one of them away. But every answer raises a harder question. Is Kathryn protecting someone, or is she the leak herself? Steven Soderbergh directs a sleek, talky spy thriller that trades explosions for loaded glances, polygraph tests, and marriages tested across the dinner table. Cate Blanchett and Michael Fassbender are superb as a couple whose love is real and whose trust is conditional, because in their world a “black bag” is the secret you never share, not even with your spouse.

Soderbergh strips the genre down to elegant rooms, sharp dialogue, and faces that give nothing away, then lets a superb ensemble — Blanchett, Fassbender, Marisa Abela, Tom Burke, Naomie Harris, and Regé-Jean Page — play a game of suspicion where anyone could be lying. At a tight 94 minutes, it never wastes a scene, and its final twist reframes everything you thought you knew about the Woodhouses’ marriage.
