Chronicles of the Sun

2018 • TMDB 6.6 • 8 seasons • Soap

Overview

Known in French as Un si grand soleil, Chronicles of the Sun opens with a shock: Claire returns to Montpellier only to be arrested for the murder of a childhood friend. From that arrest, the series unfolds into a sunlit, twist-filled daily drama about families whose lives keep colliding — in love, in business and in court. Set in the south of France, it mixes crime plots with domestic drama, so a police investigation can share an episode with a wedding, a betrayal or a long-buried secret coming to light. The Mediterranean setting is part of the appeal: bright streets, beaches and family homes that make even the darkest storyline feel vivid and alive.

Since 2018, the show has become a fixture of French television, with a huge ensemble that grows season by season. New characters arrive with their own troubles, while the Bastide, Berville and Legrand families anchor the ongoing story. Because episodes air daily, the drama moves fast — a single week can change alliances, reveal a culprit or break a relationship. For viewers who enjoy soaps with a strong mystery thread, Chronicles of the Sun offers the best of both: emotional, character-led storytelling with a crime plot always simmering in the background.
