Overview
Some toys should never be wound up. When twin brothers Hal and Bill discover a mysterious wind-up monkey in their attic, a series of outrageous, gruesome deaths begins tearing their family apart. Hoping to end the curse, they throw the toy away and try to move on with their lives — but twenty-five years later, the monkey is back, and a new killing spree forces the estranged brothers to confront the cursed object they thought they had buried. Adapted from Stephen King’s short story and directed by Osgood Perkins, The Monkey is a horror-comedy that treats death as both terrifying and absurdly funny. Theo James plays both twins as adults, leading a cast that leans fully into the film’s gleefully twisted tone. As the body count climbs in ever more inventive ways, Hal must face the one thing he cannot outrun: the past, grinning back at him with cymbals in hand.
Why Watch The Monkey?
Because it is the rare horror film that makes you laugh and gasp in the same breath. Osgood Perkins turns a Stephen King nightmare into a darkly comic splatterfest, with death scenes so outrageous they become the main attraction. Theo James is excellent in a dual role, and the film never takes itself too seriously — which makes its scares land even harder.
