Overview

Baccano! is a gleefully chaotic Prohibition-era crime caper that refuses to tell its story in order — and is all the better for it. Across 1930, 1931 and 1932, a huge cast of alchemists, gangsters, thieves and immortals collides around one legendary event: the blood-soaked voyage of the transcontinental train the Flying Pussyfoot. At the center are the elixir of immortality, first brewed aboard a ship in 1711, and the eccentrics chasing it: cheerful thieves Isaac and Miria, reluctant gang leader Jacuzzi Splot, young Camorra member Firo Prochainezo, the terrifying Rail Tracer, and the ageless alchemist Szilard Quates. Based on Ryohgo Narita’s light novels, the series jumps between timelines and viewpoints with dizzying confidence, trusting viewers to piece the puzzle together. A swinging jazz soundtrack, black comedy and bursts of shocking violence make Baccano! one of anime’s great cult classics: a 13-episode whirlwind that rewards every rewatch.
