Ted Lasso

2020 • TMDB 8.4 • 4 seasons • Drama, Comedy

Overview

Ted Lasso is the rare comedy that makes you laugh and then quietly makes you cry. When relentlessly optimistic American football coach Ted Lasso is hired to manage AFC Richmond, a struggling English soccer club, nobody — least of all the team’s cynical players and its scheming owner — expects him to last. Ted knows nothing about soccer, but he knows people: he leads with kindness, curiosity, and an endless supply of folksy wisdom and biscuits, and slowly, stubbornly, he wins over the locker room, the fans, and the town. Beneath the jokes and the mustache, though, is a show of real depth, tackling anxiety, divorce, ambition, and the hard work of being decent. Jason Sudeikis is magnificent in the title role, and the ensemble around him is just as strong. Warm, funny, and genuinely uplifting, Ted Lasso is comfort television at its very best — the kind of show that leaves you believing, just a little more, in people.

Why Watch Ted Lasso?

Ted Lasso is the show to reach for when the world feels heavy. It is funny in the way the best comedies are — quotable, warm, and full of characters you genuinely want to spend time with — but it earns its tears honestly, never shying away from the messiness underneath the optimism. AFC Richmond’s locker room becomes a found family, and watching gruff Roy Kent, swaggering Jamie Tartt, and guarded Rebecca Welton soften under Ted’s relentless decency is pure joy. You do not need to know a thing about soccer to love it; you only need to believe that kindness can be a strategy. Believe.
