Overview

Eleventh-century Iceland is a hard place to grow up, and young Thorfinn idolizes the warriors who sail off to war — until his father Thors, a legendary fighter who turned his back on violence, is murdered by the mercenary Askeladd. Thorfinn joins Askeladd’s band not as a comrade but as a weapon, fighting in war after war for one promise: a fair duel with the man who killed his father. Season 1 is a brutal Viking epic of battles, betrayals and the politics of kings, following Thorfinn from a hot-headed boy to a soldier hollowed out by revenge. Season 2 changes everything, trading the battlefield for a farm, where an enslaved Thorfinn must reckon with everything he has done and search for a life beyond the sword. Vinland Saga is one of the great anime of recent years — a story about violence, atonement and the long road to becoming someone who truly has no enemies.
