Overview
On death row in a 1930s Louisiana prison, the corridor the guards call the Green Mile leads to one final destination. Head guard Paul Edgecomb has seen cruelty, fear, and remorse in many forms, but nothing prepares him for John Coffey, a towering, gentle man convicted of a terrible crime who seems to carry a gift he cannot explain. As Coffey heals the sick and touches the lives around him, Paul begins to question what justice really means when the law and his conscience point in different directions. Frank Darabont’s adaptation of Stephen King’s novel is patient, humane, and deeply moving, balancing moments of warmth and humor with the weight of its ending. It is a story about mercy, responsibility, and the cost of witnessing something extraordinary.

Why Watch The Green Mile?
Tom Hanks and Michael Clarke Duncan lead an outstanding ensemble in a film that earns its three-hour running time through character, not spectacle. Duncan’s performance is heartbreaking, and Darabont gives every guard and prisoner room to feel real. It is one of the great tearjerkers of its era, but it never feels manipulative: its questions about justice and compassion stay with you long after the final scene.
