Overview

In a cluttered Akihabara lab, self-proclaimed mad scientist Rintaro Okabe and his friends accidentally turn a microwave into a device that can send text messages to the past. What starts as a goofy experiment soon spirals into something far more serious, as every change to history ripples outward and a shadowy organization called SERN closes in. Steins;Gate is a slow-burn masterpiece: its lighthearted first half, full of banter, quirky lab members and small-town charm, carefully sets up a second half packed with heartbreak, sacrifice and impossible choices. Okabe’s desperate attempts to save the people he loves — reliving the same tragedies again and again — make for one of the most emotionally powerful stories in anime. Clever, tense and deeply moving, it rewards patience with a finale that fans still talk about years later.
