Overview

Gotham is finally turning a corner. With Lieutenant Jim Gordon and the newly elected District Attorney Harvey Dent squeezing the city’s organized crime, Bruce Wayne sees a real chance to hang up the cape and let honest institutions do the work. Then the Joker arrives, a criminal with no interest in money or territory, only in proving that order is a fragile joke. As his schemes escalate from bank heists to impossible moral traps, the partnership between Batman, Gordon, and Dent is tested to breaking point. Christopher Nolan’s second Batman film is less a straightforward superhero adventure than a tense crime epic, where every victory comes with a cost and the hero must decide how far he is willing to go to protect a city that may never thank him.

Why Watch The Dark Knight?

Heath Ledger’s Oscar-winning turn as the Joker remains one of the great screen performances, terrifying precisely because the character has no motive anyone can negotiate with. Around him, Nolan builds a sprawling, grounded crime saga with practical stunts, moral dilemmas, and a pace that rarely lets up. It raised the bar for what a comic-book film could be, and it still rewards a rewatch for its craft, its tension, and its bittersweet ending.
