Overview
This town is not just a normal town. In CITY THE ANIMATION, an ordinary city becomes the stage for gloriously unpredictable comedy, as the everyday lives of its residents keep spiraling into the absurd. College student Midori Nagumo juggles rent, part-time work, and a mountain of debt, while her friends Wako Izumi and Eri Amakazari drift through school days filled with strange encounters, running gags, and sudden bursts of emotion. A missing sausage, a cursed camera, a god who pops up at the worst moments: nothing stays small for long. Based on Keiichi Arawi’s manga and animated by Kyoto Animation, this is slice-of-life comedy at its most inventive, where laughter, love, and surprisingly tender moments arrive one after another. Welcome to CITY.

Why Watch City the Animation?
City the Animation is pure joy: Kyoto Animation’s gorgeous, hyper-expressive style poured into comedy that never sits still. The jokes range from deadpan to deliriously silly, yet the show always finds time for genuine warmth, especially in Nagumo’s scrappy determination to keep going. Fans of Nichijou will recognize Arawi’s fingerprints immediately, but CITY stands on its own as a celebration of ordinary life made extraordinary. It is the rare comedy that leaves you grinning and oddly moved in the same episode.
