Overview
In an alternate 1994, the world has already lost its war against the machines. Orphaned teenager Michelle has grown up in foster care believing her younger brother Christopher died in the conflict — until a gentle, cartoonish robot shows up claiming to be him. Desperate for answers, she sets out across a retro-futuristic America of rusted robots and empty highways, joined by Keats, a roguish smuggler with his own reasons for heading west. What follows is a road movie with a blockbuster heart: a journey through a landscape where discarded machines have built their own strange society, and where a ruthless corporation will stop at nothing to keep its secrets buried. Directed by Anthony and Joe Russo and starring Millie Bobby Brown and Chris Pratt, The Electric State pairs spectacular visuals with a surprisingly tender story about family, memory, and what makes us human.
Why Watch The Electric State?
The Electric State is worth watching for its sheer imagination. The Russo brothers build a fully realized retro-future world — part 1990s Americana, part robot graveyard — that looks like nothing else on Netflix, and the film’s action set pieces are staged with real scale and wit. At its center, Millie Bobby Brown gives the story its emotional anchor, while Chris Pratt and a delightful voice cast, including Woody Harrelson and Anthony Mackie, keep the journey funny and warm. Beneath the spectacle sits a thoughtful question about technology and connection, making this a blockbuster with something to say.
