Overview

In the fictional European kingdom of Sauville in 1924, Japanese exchange student Kazuya Kujou arrives at Saint Marguerite Academy and discovers its strangest resident: Victorique de Blois, a brilliant, doll-like girl who spends her days in the library tower reading and solving mysteries with what she calls her fountain of wisdom. Her brother Grevil, a flamboyant detective, keeps bringing her impossible cases — a ghost ship, a cursed village, a locked-room murder — and Victorique unravels them all from her armchair, with Kujou as her Watson. But beneath the gothic mysteries lies a darker story: Victorique’s hidden past, her mother Cordelia, and a war gathering on the horizon. Across 24 episodes, Gosick blends classic detective fiction with romance and wartime tragedy, building to a finale that is both heartbreaking and hopeful. Elegant, clever and deeply emotional, it is one of the most underrated mystery anime of its era.
