Overview
Mitsuha is a high school girl in the quiet mountain town of Itomori, where she helps at her family’s shrine and dreams of life in the big city. Taki is a high school boy in Tokyo, juggling school and a part-time job. One morning, each wakes up in the other’s body — and the swap keeps happening. At first they bicker through notes and rules left on phones and skin, fixing each other’s days and friendships. Gradually, without ever meeting, they fall for one another. Then the swapping stops. When Taki sets out to find Mitsuha, he uncovers a devastating truth about time: a comet, a festival, and a town that may no longer exist in his present. Makoto Shinkai turns a body-swap romance into a race against fate, painted in impossibly luminous skies and carried by RADWIMPS’ soaring score.
